A Journey Through Greece—Where Truth, Virtue, and Vacation Converge

general icon

July 7-17, 2026

Enjoy an immersive, educational, spiritually rich Greece adventure that builds on what your kids are learning at Ambrose—without the chaos of planning every detail yourself, even if you feel too busy to prepare for an international trip.

This Ambrose Family Journey to Greece is more than a trip—it’s a pilgrimage wrapped in discovery, a living classroom where deep Christian faith meets the wisdom of Aristotle’s Nicomachean Ethics. It’s a wonderful vacation that invites you to celebrate the history of our faith in the very places where it was first proclaimed. The message of Jesus once traveled through Corinth, Ephesus, Athens, and Patmos on its way to Boise—now we’ll trace that same path together, seeing how truth and reason, faith and virtue, still shape our lives today.

Don’t worry—it won’t feel like a classroom; it will feel like a full-on vacation. The Ambrose students who have gone before on this trip loved it.

You’ll travel alongside other Ambrose families who share a love for faith, beauty, and learning. With a high “vacation factor” built in, this journey combines the best of all worlds: joyful discovery, meaningful conversations, and time to rest and play together. It’s a rich blend of exploration and reflection, of swimming in the Aegean, sharing meals on sunlit terraces, and laughing late into the evening.

We’ll walk the marble streets of Athens and Ephesus, wander the seaside lanes of Nafplio, swim in the crystal waters of the Aegean, and dine on unforgettable Greek cuisine. Midway through the journey, we’ll set sail on a beautiful cruise ship through the islands—each one a living postcard of color and history. We’ll stroll the whitewashed lanes of Mykonos, stand in wonder on the sacred isle of Patmos, explore the medieval beauty of Rhodes, and take in the breathtaking caldera views of Santorini. Each stop reveals both the splendor of creation and the story of how God prepared the world for the coming of His Son. Along the way, we’ll stand where Paul reasoned with philosophers about “the Unknown God,” where John received the Revelation of Jesus’ return, and where the first Gentile believers learned to live by faith through the power of the Holy Spirit.

This is a journey celebrating the true, the good, and the beautiful—a family experience unlike most others. It refreshes the soul, delights the senses, and strengthens faith as ancient ruins, Scripture, and shared moments weave together into a tapestry of meaning and wonder.

Foundations of Civilization and the Spread of the Gospel

DateFriday, Jul 10, 2026

Ancient Mycenae and Biblical Corinth

Today we journey into the heart of ancient Greece, exploring two remarkable sites that tell the story of human civilization and the spread of the Gospel of Jesus.

Mycenae

Our morning begins at Mycenae, the legendary kingdom of Agamemnon and one of Europe’s earliest advanced civilizations. Between 1600 and 1100 B.C., the Mycenaeans built vast citadels of stone, ruled by warrior-kings whose artistry and ambition shaped the early Greek world. Their legacy inspired Homer’s great epics—the Iliad and the Odyssey—tales of courage, pride, and the longing for immortality. As we pass through the Lion Gate or stand before the beehive-shaped Treasury of Atreus, we step into that ancient story and are reminded that even the strongest empires eventually fade.

Ancient Corinth

In the afternoon, we travel to Ancient Corinth, one of the most significant cities in the Apostle Paul’s ministry. In the first century, Corinth flourished as a crossroads of trade and culture, linking east and west through its twin harbors. Amid its prosperity and moral excess, Paul arrived around A.D. 50, working alongside Aquila and Priscilla as a tentmaker while preaching the Gospel for eighteen months—the longest he remained in any Greek city.

Standing before the Bēma, or Judgment Seat, we imagine Paul courageously defending his faith before Gallio, the Roman proconsul. Here, surrounded by temples and marketplaces, Paul proclaimed a message not of human glory, but of grace and truth through Jesus.

We’ll gather for an included lunch at Gemelos Tavern, enjoying traditional Greek cuisine on the rooftop terrace overlooking the ancient ruins of Corinth—a perfect setting to reflect on the day’s discoveries.

For today’s traveler, Corinth offers both history and reflection. Its ruins whisper of a culture that sought beauty, success, and pleasure—yet in this very place, God chose to reveal His power to transform lives. As we walk these ancient stones, we are reminded that while the wisdom of this world fades, the Gospel endures.

This evening, we return to our hotel in Nafplio, where you may choose to enjoy dinner together at the hotel or explore one of the town’s charming seaside tavernas on your own.

Streets of Story and Stone: Walking the Heart of Athens

activity icon

The Market to the Marble

DateSaturday, Jul 11, 2026

We drive from the Peloponnese to the capital city. We stop and marvel at the Corinth Canal, a breathtaking man-made gorge that slices through the narrow Isthmus of Corinth, linking the Aegean and Ionian Seas. Once dreamed of by ancient emperors, this engineering wonder reveals both the ambition of Greece’s past and the beauty of its rugged landscape today.

Few cities invite you to walk through the layers of history quite like Athens. Beneath the shadow of the Acropolis, ancient ruins, Byzantine churches, and modern cafés all coexist in a rhythm that feels timeless. This afternoon experience introduces Ambrose families to the heart of Athens — a place where faith, history, and daily life intertwine in color, sound, and flavor.

Enjoy a leisurely lunch in the Plaka, Athens’ oldest and most beloved district. Nestled at the foot of the Acropolis, it’s a web of narrow lanes lined with pastel homes, cascading bougainvillea, and the lingering scent of grilled meats and warm bread.

The gyros stands fill the air with the aroma of roasted lamb, while bakeries tempt with spanakopita (spinach pie) and loukoumades, golden honey-drizzled dough bites sprinkled with cinnamon. Stopping for frozen Greek yogurt with thyme honey is practically a rite of passage on a warm afternoon. This area has been inhabited continuously since ancient times — a living museum of Greek life.

Families can explore tiny shops selling hand-painted icons, olive wood crosses, and woven linens, each reflecting centuries of craft and faith. Street musicians strum bouzouki melodies that echo off marble walls, and every corner reveals something unexpected — a Roman column in a courtyard, a vine-covered church from the 10th century, or a cat perched on a marble step.

Our walk concludes at Syntagma Square, the civic center of Athens and the site of the Hellenic Parliament, built as a royal palace in the 19th century. The square’s name means “Constitution,” and it symbolizes Greece’s long struggle for freedom and self-determination.

Families will gather near the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, where the Evzones, elite guards in traditional pleated uniforms and pom-pom shoes, stand at attention. Every hour, the changing of the guard takes place with a precise, slow-motion ritual — both solemn and mesmerizing. On Sundays, the full ceremonial parade adds music and grandeur to the spectacle.

Around the square, shaded terraces buzz with life. The National Gardens lie just behind the Parliament, offering a calm green refuge filled with fountains, tropical plants, and shaded paths.

For the Christian traveler, the city of Athens is a reminder that the Gospel entered not only temples and synagogues, but the ordinary streets where people live and work. Here, amid laughter, commerce, and community, we experience the continuity of Greek hospitality

Golden Age of Greece

DateSunday, Jul 12, 2026

When Paul arrived in Athens (Acts 17), he walked past altars and idols representing every possible deity — expressions of humanity’s hunger for meaning. On Mars Hill (the Areopagus), overlooking the Acropolis and the temple of Athena Parthenos, Paul spoke words that forever joined biblical revelation with the language of philosophy:

Towering above modern-day Athens, the Acropolis has been continuously inhabited since the Bronze Age and reached its pinnacle in the 5th century BC as a symbol of power, worship, and intellectual achievement.

Begin at the 2nd-century Odeon of Herodes Atticus, still used for performances today. Then stand before the iconic Parthenon, a white marble masterpiece dedicated to Athena, goddess of wisdom and the city's namesake. Continue to the Erechtheion, where myth and architecture merge—the sacred site of Athena and Poseidon's legendary contest, featuring the graceful Porch of the Caryatids.

At the base of the Acropolis lies the Acropolis Museum — A masterpiece of modern architecture built to showcase the treasures of ancient Athens. Standing at the foot of the Acropolis, the museum houses breathtaking sculptures, artifacts, and friezes that once adorned the sacred hill. Sunlit galleries and glass floors connect you to the ancient city below, offering a powerful encounter with Greece’s artistic and pagan legacy.

Step into history at the Panathenaic Stadium — the world’s only stadium built entirely of marble. Originally constructed in the 4th century BC and later restored for the first modern Olympic Games in 1896, this awe-inspiring arena once hosted athletic contests honoring Athena. Today, it stands as a stunning symbol of Greek heritage and the enduring Olympic spirit.

Embarkation and Sailing to Mykonos

DateMonday, Jul 13, 2026

This morning we depart Nafplio and travel to Athens’ port of Piraeus, where we board the Celestyal Discovery—our floating home for the next several days. As we settle into our comfortable staterooms and meet the crew, anticipation builds for the journey ahead across the legendary Aegean Sea.

Soon, the ship sets sail from the Attic coast, gliding past sun-washed islands and rugged cliffs that have witnessed the passage of travelers for millennia. The rhythm of the sea invites rest, reflection, and wonder—an ideal moment to pause and give thanks for the privilege of tracing the same waters once crossed by Paul and John.

By late afternoon, we arrive at Mykonos, the island of whitewashed houses, winding alleys, and cobalt-blue shutters that spill down toward the lively harbor. Here, bougainvillea drapes over balconies, cafés hum with conversation, and narrow lanes open to views of the sea. You may wander through the maze-like streets of Little Venice, browse local boutiques, or enjoy a seaside meal as fishing boats sway gently in the harbor.

As evening falls, we’ll gather to watch the sunset cast its golden glow over the town and bay—a breathtaking moment when the sea, the sky, and the whitewashed walls all seem to shimmer as one. Tonight, under the stars of the Aegean, our voyage through the islands of Scripture and story begins.

From Ephesus to Patmos: tracing the story of faith from Proclamation to Revelation

DateTuesday, Jul 14, 2026

This morning our ship docks at Kuşadası, gateway to the ancient city of Ephesus—one of the most extraordinary archaeological sites in the world and a cornerstone of the Apostle Paul’s ministry.

Ephesus

Here we meet our expert local guide, John Ates, whose Biblically rooted insight and storytelling bring the stones of antiquity to life. Together we walk the marble streets once trod by Paul and his companions, where colonnaded avenues, temples, and theaters reveal the grandeur of this first-century metropolis. We’ll visit the Library of Celsus, one of the finest façades of the ancient world, and stand in the vast Theater of Ephesus, where Paul preached to thousands and the Gospel confronted the worship of Artemis, the great goddess of the Ephesians.

As we pause among the ruins, we reflect on the boldness of Paul’s message—a call to turn from idols to the living God, a message that transformed the ancient world. Amid the fallen columns and echoing streets, we sense the enduring power of the Word that still speaks life and truth today.

Patmos

Returning to the ship, we sail across the sparkling Aegean toward the island of Patmos, the place of the Apostle John’s exile and divine vision. Upon arrival, we explore the quiet harbor and the island’s timeless beauty before going to the Church of St. Paraskevi. Here, as we read the opening words of Revelation, the Apostle John's Revelation of Jesus Christ and are reminded that the same Spirit of God who spoke to John still leads believers today.

Evening brings time to reflect on these two sacred sites—Ephesus, where the Gospel was proclaimed with courage, and Patmos, where the glory of the risen Lord was revealed. Together, they remind us that faith, once lived out in these very places, continues to shape the world and call us deeper into the story of God.

This morning, we awaken to the gentle rhythm of the ship as it glides through the Aegean toward Rhodes—an island celebrated since antiquity for its beauty, courage, and craftsmanship. Known as “the Island of the Sun,” Rhodes once stood at the crossroads of history, faith, and empire.

We dock in the harbor once guarded by the legendary Colossus of Rhodes, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Today, the Old Town of Rhodes, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, invites exploration within its medieval stone walls built by the Knights of St. John. Narrow cobbled streets wind past arched doorways, courtyards, and bustling markets filled with local crafts, leather goods, and fragrant spices.

Our morning includes a guided walking tour through the Palace of the Grand Masters and down the Street of the Knights, where faith and fortitude once shaped the course of the Mediterranean world. You’ll have time to wander the old quarter, savor a traditional Greek lunch, or relax at one of the harbor cafés where turquoise waters sparkle beneath the sun.

For those seeking a quiet moment, you may wish to visit one of the island’s serene chapels or simply pause to take in the view—where history, beauty, and faith seem to converge.

Optional Excursions (€):

  • The Acropolis of Lindos and the Citadel of the Knights – Travel to Lindos, one of the most breathtaking sites in all of Greece. Climb to the hilltop Acropolis for panoramic views over St. Paul’s Bay and explore the whitewashed village below.

You may choose to explore the legendary Palace of Knossos, the labyrinthine center of King Minos’ kingdom and home to the myth of the Minotaur. Its vivid frescoes and intricate architecture reveal a civilization that prized creativity, trade, and the beauty of craftsmanship. Others may prefer to stroll through Heraklion’s old town—where open-air cafés, Venetian walls, and seaside views invite a slower pace.

Santorini

By early afternoon, we return to the ship to sail northward toward the island jewel of Santorini, whose dramatic cliffs and whitewashed villages rise in striking contrast above the sapphire sea. Arriving around midday, we are met by our local hosts and transferred to our hotel near the Galata Tower, a charming district of cobbled streets, waterfront cafés, and sweeping views across the Golden Horn.

After checking in, we begin our introduction to the city with a visit to the Egyptian Spice Bazaar, one of Istanbul’s most vibrant and storied markets. The scent, sound, and color of this place awaken the senses and hint at the wonder of the days to come.

The Heart of Old Istanbul: Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, and Topkapı Palace

DateSaturday, Jul 18, 2026

After breakfast, we cross the Galata Bridge into Sultanahmet, the historic heart of Istanbul, where faith and empire once stood side by side in extraordinary splendor.

We begin at the Hagia Sophia, the crown jewel of Byzantine architecture and one of the most awe-inspiring Christian sanctuaries ever built. Commissioned by Emperor Justinian in the sixth century, its golden dome and cascading arches have witnessed more than 1,400 years of change.

Next, we visit the Blue Mosque, an icon of Ottoman devotion known for its six graceful minarets and the shimmering brilliance of its Iznik tilework—each pattern unique, each hue reflecting the light of heaven. Beneath the city streets, we step into the mysterious Basilica Cistern, where ancient columns rise from still waters in quiet reverence, a hidden cathedral of stone and reflection.

Following lunch, we continue to the Topkapı Palace, the opulent seat of the Ottoman sultans for more than four centuries. Its gilded chambers, emerald courtyards, and panoramic views of the Bosphorus reveal both the splendor and fragility of worldly power.

In the mid-afternoon, we pause for a traditional Turkish coffee at Sirkeci Lokantası 1921, one of the city’s beloved culinary landmarks. Sipping the rich, dark brew surrounded by the hum of local life, we experience a moment of pause and presence—an echo of the city’s timeless hospitality.

Our exploration continues at the Grand Bazaar, one of the world’s oldest and most enchanting markets. Here, narrow lanes wind beneath painted domes, filled with color and craft—handwoven carpets, brass lanterns, fragrant teas, and intricate art. Just beyond, the Spice Market draws us with its perfume of cinnamon, saffron, and rose—a final flourish of Istanbul’s vibrant character before the day concludes.

Dinner tonight is at leisure, with recommendations for favorite restaurants in the Galata and Karaköy districts, where the glow of lamplight reflects on the water and music drifts through the evening air.

Across the Bosphorus: Asian Istanbul & Sunset Cruise

DateSunday, Jul 19, 2026

After breakfast, we set out to experience both sides of this remarkable city—where two continents meet and centuries of faith and culture intertwine. Crossing the Bosphorus Bridge or taking a ferry to the Asian side of Istanbul, we arrive in Kadıköy and Moda, neighborhoods known for their warm, local spirit and slower rhythm of life. Here, bakeries scent the air with sesame bread, fishermen mend their nets by the docks, and market stalls overflow with fresh produce, olives, and flowers.

We pause for a leisurely lunch at a neighborhood café before returning to the European side for an afternoon at ease. Some may wish to browse small galleries near Karaköy for shopping, rest at the hotel terrace overlooking the city, or wander through the lanes beneath the Galata Tower, where the hum of the city softens into the sound of sea and wind.

As the day draws toward evening, we embark on a Bosphorus Sunset Cruise—a journey of light and reflection between two continents. From the water, Istanbul reveals its soul: domes and minarets glowing in the golden light, palaces mirrored in the sea, bridges arching gracefully between Europe and Asia. The sky deepens from gold to rose to indigo as the city lights shimmer across the strait.

It’s a moment to breathe and be still—to take in the beauty of creation, the meeting of worlds, and the quiet presence of God that threads through them both.

After the cruise, we gather for a farewell dinner along the Bosphorus, celebrating the friendships and memories that have marked this journey of discovery and faith.

Trip Travel Insurance

No one ever wants to use travel insurance—just like no one wants to use car or health insurance. It’s something you hope you’ll never need, but when unexpected situations arise—a missed flight, a family emergency, or a sudden illness—you’ll be thankful it’s in place. Travel insurance is your safety net for unforeseen events, offering peace of mind so you can focus on enjoying the experience ahead. Choosing the right travel insurance is a crucial part of thoughtful trip planning, ensuring that you’re covered if things don’t go exactly as expected.

Types of Policies

Travel insurance is not included in the cost of the trip but is highly recommended by True Hope Travel for travelers to consider.

Medical Insurance (Travel Medical Coverage) - This plan covers medical expenses incurred while traveling abroad, including emergency care, hospital stays, and sometimes medical evacuation.

Trip Cancellation Insurance - Reimburses non-refundable trip costs if you must cancel your trip for a covered reason (e.g., illness, injury, family emergency, or natural disaster).

Trip Interruption Insurance - Covers costs if your trip is unexpectedly cut short due to covered reasons, such as a medical emergency or a family situation back home.

Cancel For Any Reason (CFAR) Insurance - An optional upgrade that allows you to cancel your trip for any reason not covered under standard policies. To qualify, CFAR must typically be purchased within 1–2 weeks of your first trip payment and generally reimburses 50–75% of your trip cost.
